A few days i n New York. One day in Queens. And now I am oficially a fan of the New York Mets. Turn up your loudspeakers and “Meet the Mets” in their 1962 teamsong…

Park og plæner bag Queens station og kæmpeglobus. Det myldrer med børn, unge og voksne – spansktalende og asiatere. En 6-7 teenagere er i vandkamp. Pigen med navlering og pink cowbukser skriger. Et par drenge flygter hen til deres skateboards.
En fodboldkamp er igang på et stykke plæne overfor teenagerne. På de rigtige boldbaner bagved er er der dommerfløjt, overtrækstrøjer og afmærkninger. Her er der tasker som mål. Juninho sætter sig på bænken for at skifte sko.
De japanske kirsebærtræer blomstrer og motorvejen buldrer i baggrunden. Far og mor kysser under træerne. En treårig kommer løbende forbi mig med en stor basketball. George Washington kigger ophøjet ud over det hele. Nu skriger pigen i de pink cowbukser igen. Tror hun er carribisk. Cubansk måske.

Ahm… My room does look a little like a jail cell, right? But actually this place is really good. Arrived last night and took the shuttle bus from the airport to Port Auth. bus terminal + the “C UPTOWN” subway the rest of the way to 103 street (thanks to my brother Morten for sms directions). A very friendly staff. Clean room with lockers. Sleapt all night without eay plugs. Hot water this morning. Free internet. And bagel+jam+latte this morning in the lobby for 4$. And now I will go out in the sun to Central Park that is just next door. 🙂
Trashy and confusing with arrivals and gates everywhere. The floor is made of this small-rocks-concrete material that hides dirt. Not exclusive.
First man speaking to me was the passport officer: “Ahhh, – from Denmark. Well have a nice day, Peter”. Welcoming and friendly. And cool Irish accent!!
Besides the accents, there is not really much sound quality in Dublin Airport. At Starbucks, though, I had my coffee while they played John Lennons “Imagine”. All good memories from both Palestine, Cuba and HuH this last weekend.
It is a high score, but this is Dublin – home of the Guinness. And 50 meters from my gate was the “The gate clock” – a real Irish pub with real Irish men. I had to get a Guiness there. Sat at a dark leather chair by a Jameson Wiskey barrel table. And the barman tas wonderfully arrogant, just as an Irish men should be!
The friendly DSB girl smiled and served me coffee as I left Aarhus this afternoon. How often does that happen? Yes, they might just try to make up for increased travel time these months. But she didn’t have to smile !!
I entered the train with coffee and calm feelings. I have been trying to pack and prepare during the last few days while ensuring my mom that I will be okay, – but sitting in the train knowing that there is only one way to go. That was nice.
Really, I have no idea of what to expect from the next months. What I do know is that it is 24°C in New York and that I have the best backing group ever in my friends and family. Once again, that fact blew me away this weekend, when I visited “Haslev udvidede Højskole” for an annual gathering. Thanks!

Back in 2005 I visited New York in one amazing week with my friends Arne Andreasen and Signe Bo. I just re-experienced some of the pictures from then, and found a few notes written by my alltime favorite poet – Arne;
“Tjekkede Times Square efter mørkets frembrud – kom op fra Subwayen ved 42th street og direkte ud på Times Square. Totalt overvældende og fantastisk. Troede at vi havde vænnet os til højhuse! Times Square er egentlig der hvor 42. gade skærer Broadway – men hele kvarteret hedder TS. Retur til SoHo (eller måske nærmere Greenwich Village – eller ”The Village”) hvor vi opdagede ”The Bitter End” – og WOW!! igen. 5 orkestre på én aften. Fabelagtig funk-fusion med nougat-lækker mavedans og total tigthness (”Stop irrational logic”).” Flere af Arnes noter her
I booked my first tickets just about an hour ago. One week from now I will arrive at JFK Airport, New York 🙂 !!! Our journey is just about to take off;
I will be able to buy some journey-stuff I really need at a reeeeally low dollar rate, but this is mainly an opportunity to start everything in the city of freedom, oportunities and dreams. “If I can [bwwaap] make it theeeere i’ll make it…”
NYC idears are more than welcomed in the comment field (DK/UK). What to do, where to go and who to visit. Do you know anyone there? And also; should I go to Boston or Washington now that I’m in the neighbourhood…?
Next week – from April 15 – I will be travelling the world searching for new inspiration for my life and studies in Denmark. I am so excited about everything.
But
I will be travelling alone and… that’s scary! Normally I’m so entangled in other people and projects that I almost never do anything all by myself. I truly believe this is a good thing because my life makes sense in relations. But it makes me wonder what will happen, when I am suddenly left alone!?
I need to find out.
But I need your backup.
