Miami Beach. Is this real…?!

On the white sand of Miami Beach between parasols and sun people. My eyes are blinded by the brightness of an airy white summer dress passing in front of me. Superfit stomachs. Perfect bikini bodies. And an overweight American couple on a way-to-small blanket. Somewhere in the distance the 80es hit Girls just wanna have fun is playing, and right behind me two girls are in passionate discussion on foundation and makeup. The flag on the lifeguard tower is green. There is no danger.

In a local museum showing design artifacts from history. I am smiling looking at fortune weights, old gas kitchens and war posters. This is so true! Objects are expressions of human ideas, and they change the way we live. What man makes, makes man. I scan the museum shop books on designing a better world while drinking expensive coffee.

At a Jazz hostel party in a relaxing nnight atmosphere. Cheap vodka juice and a black hustler employee hitting on every blond girl there. My interesting talk with a civilized guy from Boston is drowned by the Dutch guy changing subject. “By the way, do you know the Gaia theory?!”

Party night at Miami Beach, Florida

The clock has turned midnight and I am sitting in a jazzy dark hostel lobby. The place really looks more like a crowded nightclub with lound pop music and party-red walls. Beerdrinking post high school youngsters from all over the world are spread in the sofas around me, and I am thinking this might be the closest I will ever come to travelling with Danish partyagency UNG REJS… However, I actually feel great and relaxed here, and now the boy next to me starts speaking Norwegian.

Just a few hours ago I arrived with LA560 from Caracas. Transporting myself fro mthe airport to Miami Beach, I realized how huge a relief it was being able to ask talk to people again. WOOO, YOU UNDERSTAND ME, I almost cried out to the streetsman awnsered my direction-question. YES!

And now I should put down the computer and get into the game 🙂

Hugo Chávez frustrations

Río Caura, day 5 – the beach

We have finally arrived at the vast sandbanks of destination El Playón where this part of our river journey ends. Small wooden houses are spread on the beach, and with the evening sun sending a paradise glow down upon everything, it is hard not to feel amazed.

After dinner Caracas man Francisco pops an expensive French red wine and offers me a glass in the dark overlooking the water. His wife is asleep in a hammock nearby. “Mmmm, this is really camping”, he says.

Dictator socialism

Francisco expresses his pride in the fact, that educated European students like me wants to come to Venezuela regardless of the political situation. He is openly frustrated by the socialist leadership of President Hugo Chávez.

– It has been 10 years now and it’s not getting any better. Chávez wants to do to Venezuela what Fidel Casto did to Cuba, and all though we should be a democracy here, that man is running the country like a dictator.

Belonging to wealthy class of Venezuelans, Francisco admits that Cháves missions have helped some poor people, but he doesn’t think he is building any foundation for the future, though he has had every opportunity with all the oil money floating in the country. And this frustrates him.

– I am a socialist too, you know. Just not this way.

Drawing secrets in the sand

I am writing these lines in the shadow of a palm tree on “Pirates Bay” – a five minutes’ walk from Charlotteville (YES, Morten – it was an amazing view!!!). And the beach was a beautiful little place with yellow sand and emerald green water. Though I am not much of a beach boy, it has been nice just spending the day here in the sun, reading, swimming, looking at bikini girls etc.

At least the first hours until I started getting bored…

Then I started asking myself questions like; what I am really doing here when everything important happens at home! What do I hope to figure out along the way? Do I have a goal? Should I change things when I return to my life in Denmark?

No answers yet. Because after a few minutes I rediscovered the beauty of drawing things in the sand. Yeer!!! You know, clearing a spot with your hands and using your fingers to curve your thoughts. Depending on how far down you go, the surface will get wetter and harder, and I have actually found that I dare to write things here that wouldn’t go in my Moleskin, simply because I know that with stroke of my hand, – all the secrets would be gone. Highly recommendable!!

Paradise #2: Notes

Arriving at my guesthouse just by the sea // Walking the street beeing greeted by everyone // Swimming in mountain pool with waterfalls // Having breakfast with former US jazz drummer Horace // Being lost in the forest and suddenly meeting an old man who knows the way // Receiving a sweet SMS from Denmark // Discovering new sounds // Finally stepping down on the hot beach sand // Eating coconut soup at “Laguna Mar” // Having bites and scratches everywhere on my body // Drinking a cold lager in the sunset // Watching Juno on the balcony at night //
