San Francisco, New York, London and now… Back in Aarhus!!!

Though I have kept quiet on the weblog, some of you might have noticed that my location has changed quite a lot during the past week. San Francisco, New York, London and now… Denmark??!

Well, yes… It wasn’t part of my plans either, but I was just really tempted. Tickets to the Middle East were suddenly way more expensive than I expected, and Aarhus Airport was just 9.99£ (+ tax) away from London. So now I am home…! My surprised parents rushed to the airport and drove me and my brothers back to sunny family dinner in Skive. SOOO good.

Today I am back in Aarhus and have just been invited to some food and football at good friends in my old neighborhood ghetto Gellerup. Tomorrow I will go and do some work at my office, and then we will see what happens 🙂

She is a student of Art History in Switzerland. When talking her blue eyes sparkle with interest, which creates a strange intimacy. She listens intensely but speaks even more – as if everything was of the greatest importance. And then suddenly she is distracted by a detail on the wall and the whole world stops.

She drinks coffee and tells stories about her emotional teenage years and attempts of figuring out what to do in life. I am fascinated and wonder if she has found the way… of changing the world? Njaaarh. Well. Not really. She believes in finding meaning along the way, – possibly when travelling the world as a tour guide. That is her dream.

(…) Mht SF, så er der en klar favorit for mit vedkommende – San Francisco Brewing Company, FANTASTISK øl. Er du foodie skal du ned på havnen, på the wharf er der clam chowder, taskekrabber og hummer til små penge. Stanford er et besøg værd, men så skal du med toget ud til Palo Alto – hvor institute for the future jo holder til, dem er du naturligvis også velkommen til at kigge forbi.

Golden Gate Park er smukt, ellers er der selvf det gamle hippiekvarter Ashbury Heights og det nye super trash hippe Mission district (men kun den del, der tæt på centrum, dont go near den anden del (jeg boede der i et flip af omkostningsbevidsthed, jeziz, masser af kids with guns). (…)

Just an update; From June 27 I will participate in a youth dialogue conference in Lebanon. The “International Work and Study Camp” gathers young people from Denmark and Middle Eastern countries in 9 days hardcore focus on Peace-building through Dialogue. Danmission is the Danish organisation behind the initiative and I will participate as some kind of a reporter / blogger / communication worker, – trying to capture what happens to myself and everyone else when confronted with people of other faith and cultures.

I fly from New York to London next Sunday (June 15) and travel from there to Dubai (and maybe further) before going to Lebanon. As you know I travel open-minded, so all suggestions of where to go / who to meet – are welcomed!

21year-old Jorge from Sao Paolo has never before been outside Brazil. Tonight he checked into my room in Miami Beach and we decided to go and celebrate his arrival with real American food at an Oceans Drive restaurant. Enormous hamburgers and thick vanilla milkshakes. And charming boy Jeorge smiled all night looking at the world he had just entered. “It just feels like being in a movie”, he said. “I love America :-)!”

On the white sand of Miami Beach between parasols and sun people. My eyes are blinded by the brightness of an airy white summer dress passing in front of me. Superfit stomachs. Perfect bikini bodies. And an overweight American couple on a way-to-small blanket. Somewhere in the distance the 80es hit Girls just wanna have fun is playing, and right behind me two girls are in passionate discussion on foundation and makeup. The flag on the lifeguard tower is green. There is no danger.

In a local museum showing design artifacts from history. I am smiling looking at fortune weights, old gas kitchens and war posters. This is so true! Objects are expressions of human ideas, and they change the way we live. What man makes, makes man. I scan the museum shop books on designing a better world while drinking expensive coffee.

At a Jazz hostel party in a relaxing nnight atmosphere. Cheap vodka juice and a black hustler employee hitting on every blond girl there. My interesting talk with a civilized guy from Boston is drowned by the Dutch guy changing subject. “By the way, do you know the Gaia theory?!”

I am writing these lines slightly boozed from the last hours of drinking the Jazz Juice that is served free (!?) tonight at the hostel terrace. I really planned to share some very interesting observations on the shallowness of the no-worries-beach-shopping-looking-hot life in Miami (it really is!!!), but apparently the hostel crew has been veeeery generous with the amount of vodka in my juice (ahm) – so… you will have to wait until tomorrow. But… think of an episode of Baywatch and you have the setting.

Instead here is just a quick alcohol observation for everyone (including parents) – freshly brought to you from the land of freedom;
